As Latinx folks, we are often unaware of how we benefit from and contribute to anti-Blackness. This was an incredible opportunity to really begin to understand the role of colonization and its repercussions. Mi gente anti-oppression work is uncomfortable and it's absolutely necessary!

“This program was an unexpected and necessary pre-requisite for me to commit to my Rematriation journey to Boriké, which began just a few months after the program. During the 10-weeks I was able to peel back layers and dive deeper into the conscious and subconscious programming of my lived experience in the Puerto Rican diaspora and examine other identities in relation to anti-Blackness.”

“This program taught me to stop, reflect, and dig DEEP. After years of focusing on ‘the bigger picture, I feel like I've finally made major breakthroughs in understanding anti-Blackness as an individual and community member. The more knowledge I gain, the more I realize how much there is to continue learning; I am eternally grateful to continue on this journey.”

“The Celestial Alegria Confronting Anti-Blackness program gave me clarity on the unlearning and personal work I need to do. The space was welcoming to all levels of understanding, and I felt that we all left with a commitment to center Black Liberation in our mission in life, whatever it may be.”

“As a Latina leader shaping the future of a grassroots organization, the Celestial Alegria Confronting Anti-Blackness program really grounded me on how I can intentionally disrupt White Supremacy in many aspects of my life. I don’t think I would have taken on this challenge without Celesté’s support. Now I can see, recognize and transform institutional and interpersonal patterns in my everyday life when it comes to racism.
I continue to use many of the historical resources from this program, but what really hit home was the brave space to speak about anti-Blackness with other Latinx people as a community.
More personally this experience allowed me to explore and practice restorative work in my relationships, especially with BIPOC.”
“The Latinx community is overdue to unearth the deeply rooted anti-Blackness of our history and how this shows up daily. Celestial Alegria’s Confronting- Anti Blackness program tapped into deep seeded places within myself, and gifted me a community of folks invested in Black liberation. I will be forever grateful for my experience.”

“I participated and led many conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion that centered to white audiences. But as a non-Black person I recognized that I needed to do my own growing and unlearning in a space focused on the experiences of Latinx people. This is why I joined the Celestial Alegria Confronting Anti-Blackness program.
What I found being a part of this community was the love and compassion I needed to dig deep. This allowed me to recognize the deeply rooted ways that White Supremacy and anti-Blackness are present in my history, my culture, and my upbringing. I was able to learn and grow in my understanding of myself and the world because every participant showed up with authenticity and vulnerability.
I had never been a part of space where I felt so safe bringing all the messy and unfinished parts of myself. This experience allowed me to know myself better and walk away with more clarity about my values. This was a life changing experience that I am forever grateful for.”
